MyMac Podcast 520: You say it’s your Birthday

mymac520
Another struggle with Guy and audio, but the GMen soldier on! What’s coming from Apple September 9? You have no idea and neither do they, but that doesn’t stop them from talking about it anyway. Guy tears apart a Mac Mini to add memory and a hard drive and much to his surprise it worked when he was done. Gaz buys an AppleTV for is daughter which naturally means they’ll be a new one very soon. Want to help out with the podcast? Check out the Patreon page for the show. Guy’s App Pick: TwistedWave Audio editor from TwistedWave $9.99. Record audio, add effects, use AudioBus to imort and export to other programs as well as export to others with lots of file options. If you record audio on your iOS devices, you should have TwistedWave
Gaz’s Pick: Not an App but a pick £40.00 GB, €49.00, $49.00, $69.00 NZ, $55.00 AU
People’s Pick: Allister Jenks likes Hyperlapse from Instagram. He thought he’d give this a go, even though he has a deep aversion to Facebook, including Instagram. It is a very simple app which takes a video and then speeds it up, with a little stabilisation for good measure. He was rather impressed with the results and once he saw that you can simply save the movies to your photo roll rather than be tied into Facebook & Instagram, he was sold. He uploaded one of his creations (apologies for the crooked horizon) to Vimeo.

MyMac Podcast 519 – A Tangled Web We Weave

mymac519
Guy and Gaz have a nice almost not crazy talk about easy to use website development tools, but before that Gaz gets wet and cold and Guy realizes after the fact that his ISP gave him a cheap slow router with not so good Wifi. Guy takes his son back to college and it costs him a fortune, we get some great feedback from our listeners about last week’s show, AND we got a Skype call that is only mildly threatening! So it’s been a good week.

MyMac Podcast 518: Still need a Mac or PC?

mymac518
What do you use your Mac for? Or better yet, can an iPad do it as well? Guy and Gaz take a look at what most people use computers for and if they could do most of it on something simpler like an iPad. They also announce the winner of Boinx Software’s Fotomagico, Gaz’s use of Apple gear while on vacation, and Guy simplifies his home network.

Guy’s App Pick: Pako by TreeMen Games. .99 in the iOS App Store
How long can you last in a parking lot with the foot permanently down on the accelerator and an unending swarm of cops willing to sacrifice themselves to get to you? Pako will let you find out. Just two controls (left and right) and SO many obstacles in your way? Can you eventually escape? No. Can you ever truly win? No. Is it an incredibly fun waste of time? Most certainly
Gaz’s (not so App) Pick: 360 Panorama
Take stunning 360 panoramas everywhere. 360 Panorama turns your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad into a full featured 360 degree panoramic camera. Easily capture immersive panoramas in seconds and instantly share your 360 view with the world. Simply pan the camera and watch as images are stitched seamlessly. 360 Panorama captures the scene in a way you never could with a traditional camera.

MyMac Podcast 517: A Potpourri of Stuff

mymac517
Well for better or worse, Gaz and Guy are back this week together after a 2 show break with them doing stuff OTHER than the podcast. They’re very sorry but may or may not do it again so there! Being away for so long they had lots of important stuff to say or at least they just had things to say. An interesting conversation about their opinion on whether or not Apple will ever go to the ARM Processor for the Mac, Gaz’s Tip, Listener feedback, and Guy has an app pick that he’s actually never used. That might sound odd, but remember we ARE talking about Guy.

MyMac516
Guy is off this week and it’s Gaz’s turn to have a guest on. James from woodpad.co.uk joins him and they chat about Gaz fitting an SSD into his Mini, if design has overtaken function, and lots of other craziness. This week there is yet another wonderful giveaway this time it’s Fotomagico from Boinx.

mymac515

MyMac Podcast 514: New or Used

mymac514
Took longer than usual since we had to start over because SOMEONE (or just Guy) said something inappropriate and in poor taste though not on purpose. He’s (Guy) just an idiot sometimes. This is the last week to enter the contest for a copy of LEGO MARVEL Super Heros so send your email to enter to “contest@mymac.com” and don’t forget to say LEGO MARVEL and MyMac in the header. Gaz and Guy debate whether to be buy new, refurbished, or used when you need that next Mac.

People’s Pick: A tip from Allister on how best to use Find my friends in iOS. How to fix it: Don’t tap on a friend in the list. Just tap on the map view itself and move the map as you want. Then tap on the chosen friend on the map. The display will now be exactly the same as the above method but won’t scroll or zoom when you refresh!

MyMac Podcast #512: Future Apple

MyMAcArt512
Gaz is off watching cars race that DON’T belong to NASCAR (the HORROR!) but Karl Madden comes on to talk about the future of various Apple products and lots of tangents that Guy went off on (because that’s what he does). You can find Karl’s probably more rational podcast Mac and Forth here.

MyMac Podcast #510: The Eff Eye Are EEE Phone

mymac510
Just like we didn’t talk about the World Cup last week, the GMen don’t talk about Amazon’s Fire phone this week. Which means they did but not much. They do talk about the new iMac and what that might mean going forward for the Mac and get lost in old Podcast art…eventually.

Mac Podcast #509: Soccerless

mymac509
Neither Guy nor Gaz talk about the World Cup or soccer except for where they do. Skype as usual acts up in each segment of this week’s show, but that doesn’t stop Gaz and Guy from their usual hijinks. Greg Holdsworth is bringing back his podcast, “Your Own Victory Garden after a nearly 4 year absence! Why did he stop? What will the new show be like? You’re going to have to listen to find out.

MyMac Podcast #508: Apple is the Knight who says BING!

mymac508
We get caught up on Guy’s adventure buying a car in Florida and how Gaz gets his iTunes for cheaps! The GMen go over some of what they thought was great from WWDC and then realize they forgot to mention a whole bunch of other things that they SAID they’ll get back to but probably won’t. Gaz’s language skills takes a horrible beating with Swahili and so much more!

MyMac Podcast #506: Stupid App Tricks

Guy’s App Pick: Star Wars TSG free! FREE! Ever want to make a title sequence like they have at the beginning of every Star Wars film? Ever think “That’s WAY too hard!” Well Star Wars TSG to the rescue. You can specify the size, number of frames per second, the studio name, the film name, and what you want said in the opening crawl. Then save it to an empty folder. Why? Because It makes a series of BMP image files that you then have to string together in QuickTime Player 7 with File -> Open Image sequence. The newer version of QuickTime won’t do it.
Gaz’s App Pick: Flow $4.99 or £2.99 UK or NZ$6.49. Flow is an FTP + SFTP client. With URL Copying, Droplets, a built-in editor, and QuickLook. Reviews are mixed but I’ve used it for a while and I like it, it may not be as good or have the features of other more sophisticated FTP clients, but I’m not sophisticated.
Allister’s App Pick: Ripit! From the little app factory $24.95. DVD ripping software

MyMac Podcast #505: Red vs Blue (or Black or Green)

mymac505
James Turner
joins the GMen in a rollicking show that quickly and somewhat willfully gets completely out of control practically from the very start. Gaz has problems with a Time Machine, Guy has a blank screen, and James is questioning his life choice of coming on to podcasts with weirdos. OH and there was some useful bit and hard drives.

Guy’s App Pick: Video Editor Pro by David Team. $29.99. Looking for a multi-track video editor with a small footprint that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? If your needs are relatively light, give Video Editor Pro a try. Multi-track drag and drop editing, crop tools, some text tools, and so on. Nothing too fancy, but it works well. Lacking in some of the basic onscreen tools (like splitting a clip which requires a keyboard shortcut) but for $30 it will most likely meet all your basic needs PLUS it accepts a lot of different formats without the need to convert them first.
Gaz’s App Pick: WhatSize £10.49.There are alternatives, go to this link if you want to try some
James Pick: Monument Valley $3.99. A puzzler of “monumental” proportions! (yeah I went there)

MyMac Podcast #504 – And The Beats Goes On

mymac504
Rough week for Guy but he did manage to soup up his son Peter’s new (or old rather) laptop with more memory and an SSD drive. Gaz has apps just made for walking and that’s just what they’ll do. The GMen discuss the Beats maybe deal and what Apple could or should buy instead. The whole Dusty story is at the very end so if you don’t want to hear it (it’s rather sad) then just stop after the closing theme.

People’s Pick: Gary Apter likes the Apple Store iOS app and thinks it’s the best way to make a Genius Bar appointment and to check in when you arrive. You can see what classes and events are scheduled and make a reservation. There have been FREE offers for music and apps. There are other things to look at promoting products and deals. Take a look. There are versions for the iPad and iPhone.

MyMac Podcast #503 – Same level of Stupid

mymac503

No show last week because Guy can’t stop messing around with the sound of the show and managed to muck it up beyond all repair. The show this week takes all the things you missed us say last week and puts them here. So it’s like it never happened (waving arms mystically). MyMac Podcast #501 – Mittens

mymac501
Sponsored by OWC

No Gaz this week as he gets his revenge on Guy for being gone for MacWorld. Or something like though it may actually just be spending time with the family someplace fun and not about Guy at all. Speaking of run on sentences, Owen joins Guy and they talk about Macworld (though in no great detail) in a very informative and revealing (where we find out why Guy is Gus and Owen is Opie! How exciting is that!). STILL no end to the podcast contest (next for maybe sure!) and lots of some of the interviews done by the MyMac Staff at some Expo or something.
