The GMen take the lazy way out and instead of having one topic to focus on, kinda jump around to talk about odd bits and pieces. Because having an entire extra week to come up with a decent topic apparently wasn’t long enough. Guy talks a lot about cats (as if the show graphic wasn’t enough of a clue) and rowing while Gaz is busy actually with tech. They wrap up the whole FBI vs Apple case, Apple’s increasing marketshare in an otherwise down industry, Safari now has a silver medal, and don’t click hacked links. Because, just don’t.

Guy’s App Pick: Well haven’t picked one of these for awhile so it’s Stupid Zombies by Game Resort. Free with in app purchases for Air Strikes to wipe out that last pesky undead creature.
Gaz’s App Pick: Doodle, it’s a calendar scheduling online and App, I came across it via Bart who uses it for his shows, well I have a load of friends who we periodically go out for a meal with, and finding out who’s available when is always a pain. But with Doodle I put in the dates send out the invites and Bob’s your uncle 🙂
It’s free to use the basic version, but to be honest that gives you all you need unless you need to get really clever in which case there are two options one at €29 or €49 a year. The link I’ve sent takes you directly to the costs page which also shows you thew difference to a paid version.

Guy’s App Pick: For budding podcasters that don’t want to spend a lot of time and money with gear and set up, take a look at Cast. You can bring in guests to also chat without using Skype or other VOIP services, they save files either together or separately, and have some basic post-editing (VERY basic) along with ways to drop in prerecorded ads and whatnot after the fact. Their plans start at $10 a month which gives you 10 hours of recording time, unlimited editing and storage, and an RSS feed. Also basic analytics

Gaz’s App Pick: Affinity Photo for Mac, Photo’s extensions and lots of photo editing goodness. 39.99 but it was on offer for a while at 29.99 so I grabbed it with my 20% vouchers I have in iTunes so it only cost me 24 gbp, see I told you keeping an eye out for the 20% iTunes vouchers is a good tip. But this is still a great App even at 39.99

So Apple is in a bit of a pickle these days. Seems everyone from the UK to New York to California wants them to create a way to break into iOS devices without the owner’s password. They want it SO bad they’re actually willing to quote an obscure 200+ year old law to do so. Because you know, the founding fathers were TOTALLY into smart phones.

Well if you have a cat that is currently dominating your home (because that’s what cats do), do them a favor and try out this product. While not all cats like catnip, those that do will likely go nuts for a wrestle wrat. Both our cats loved the one we had which is why we’ve had to order a few more as they disemboweled our original one. Seriously this thing is like crack for cats. Ignore the late 90s/early aughts look of the website, this is a quality cat product. $7.00

Gaz’s App Pick: Iconic  Iconic Mac App Free 🙂 Iconic creates beautiful custom folder icons that fit in perfectly with the standard OS X folder icons. Drag and drop a black and white image into Iconic and it will turn it into a folder icon for you. To add your new icon to a folder just drag and drop the folder into Iconic. It couldn’t be easier! Please note that Iconic attempts to create a folder icon that is in keeping with the built in icons, so using simple black shapes on a white or transparent background will give you the best results.

Guy’s App Pick: Quake 4. $19.99 on the Mac App Store. Quake has come a long way from it’s origins of essentially being a Doom Clone which is ironic since ID Software is the maker of both games and they both used the same graphics engine for a time. Still a great shoot-em-up even 10 years later.

FINALLY got the show to under an hour but Skype problems and Virgin Media UK makes life hell for thee GMen. Hey why should it only be the listeners that have to suffer? People’s Pick: Erick Diaz Not so much a pick, but a tip for those who have the iPhone 6S or 6S Plus. Inside any app, including the phone app while in a call, if you Force Touch the left side of the phone, and slide to the right, it invokes the app switcher. If Apple can, as I’ve seen in some patents, integrate the Touch ID sensor to the screen, the home button might be a thing of the past. Cool feature that I found today. Keep up the…whatever it is you call this thing you do.

Well we finally get the whole 300th episode since Guy and Gaz took over blah, blah, blah so no more about that. Just in time to start hyping the 600th episode of the podcast so, yeah. Guy gets a new mixer, but don’t get too used to it, Gaz gets a new iMac, you can get used to that, Guy finally gets his iPad Pro…unless it’s just some clever mirage, but it’s Guy so he wouldn’t admit it anyway. Gaz has some family stuff going on and couldn’t make it this week, so Melissa Davis TheMacMommy agrees to subject herself to the terrors of doing a podcast with Guy. Still no iPad Pro for Guy since apparently AT&T wants to punish him because he’s, well Guy and because they can. Melissa is mad at Paula Poundstone because Paula thinks she knows something about tech (no), education (GOD no), and raising children (PLEASE GOD NO!). She also deploys a BILLON iPads (Melissa no Paula) which is probably closer to 28 than a billion. The 300th show will happen next week or whenever.
