MyMac Podcast 664: Socked in the Jawbone

For one week, Gaz and Guy are recording together. Next week, not so much but Guy will be at Macstock so he’ll probably be able to find someone to record with. In the center section it will be the 2nd part of the Stephen Tobolowsky interview! Lastly, Jawbone joins Fitbit in the rubbish bin of smart wearables. Instead what’s left of the company will focus on medical software and hardware, a segment that Apple doesn’t compete in…(gales of laughter)

Gaz is off this week, but Guy isn’t alone as he brings back after only 7 years, Stephen Tobolowsky! The interview (interrupted by lightning) went long so Guy broke it up into a two parter for this week and next. MyMac Podcast 661 and 662: Twofers

Well for probably the only time in the history of the MyMac Podcast, you get two shows on the same day! Just not recorded on the same day, or with the same people, or is the same way. Look do you want the podcasts or not??? Thought so!

MyMac Podcast 661: NanoBites and Road Sites

Well the road experiment did work, sorta and we had Gaz on for the first section. Half the time he couldn’t hear us though. So after that, Guy talks to his son Peter and his video partner Jake in creating original content on YouTube on their Nano Bites page. It was all about how they create this content on their Macs. A weird blend of serious and wacky.

MyMac Podcast 662: On the Road, Still!

Guy is heading back from his vacation, white socks and sandals and all, so Gaz roped in Karl from the Mac&Forth show, they go through all the usual stuff and chat about Karl’s iMac and their use of iPads in the middle section, Gaz’s tip is a Menu Bar Wonder , well sorta!

Guy’s Pick: No Guy this week

MyMac Podcast 656: Analysts agree with Gaz

Whether to be be smiling wisely and frightened beyond measure, many analysts are agreeing with Gaz that Apple’s interest in cars is as a service, not in the actual manufacturing of automobiles. Bloomberg wants to talk about tables, Apple makes a big glass out of itself with Corning, and sure, let’s give big government agencies backdoor access because based on the current ransomware they’re SO good at keeping it secret.

And these were the people you wanted Apple to give a backdoor in iOS to?

Guy’s Pick: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Steam.  $39.99

Gaz’s Pick/Tip: Been looking for a journal on my IOS device and the Mac at the moment it looks like Day One is the App everyone is shouting about, but I’m trying the free version of the App Reminisce which has an in App Purchase to get the full App of 2.99 on IOS and 4.99 for the Mac, so a really great price. Apple patched iOS after researchers showed a website could use motion sensors to detect passcodes. This just makes me think how clever people are! (using the motion they could work out your codes)

MyMac Podcast 651: GPUuuus

Well Apple is screwing with our Imagination, wait no, they’re screwing with Imagination Technologies because they are going to use their mobile GPUs anymore. Since that’s a main portion of their business, they have no imagination about what to do next. Also, Apple to sell a TV bundle which doesn’t exactly set the world on fire innovation-wise and apparently Apple is one of the few truthful companies when it comes to battery life

I know Companies do this for ‘Jobs for Sales’ but I thought Apple were above this, though I suppose the governments are trying to support their economy and Apple want the sales 🙁

Guy’s Pick: Clips by Apple. A fun, easy to use little recorder for audio and video.

Gaz’s Pick/Tip: I had to do a flowchart at work, now we used to use Visio which I liked, but that doesn’t seem to be available anymore well not at a price that the company is prepared to had out licenses for. Well I found DRAW.IO and it’s an online application so yes I completed the flow chart at home on mymac 🙂 Some things make this not as integrated as it could be but I found that it had all the tools I needed and I was happy with the finished product.
