MyMac Podcast #490 – AWESOME GPS MOVE (in an eety beety living space)

mymac490
Sponsored by OWC

Gaz is not feeling well, so James Turner (from woodpad.co.uk fame) steps in to keep Guy in line (as if). BIG announcements regarding the 500th podcast! OWC is not only sponsoring some prizes to give to the best Bumper makers, but is also helping Guy go to the Macworld Expo this year! Woo Woo! James and Guy go through the usual stuff and then talk about Apple’s latest way to separate people from money (just not all to them), iBeacons. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it latest dance craze sweeping the nation? YOU decide!

Guy’s App Pick: Handbrake by Handbrake.fr TOTALLY free
Gaz’s App Pick: Audio Book Builder, I’ve picked this before but I recently bought some audio books from a charity shop, and as iTunes does not import Audio CD’s I went straight back to my favored program. It’s available through the Mac App store in the UK at £2.99 this is a steal at that price. There is a free trial on the web site but to be honest just buy it. $4.99
Jame’s App Pick: Logitech Harmony 650 Remote $59.99 at Amazon
People’s Pick: The People want Gaz to get better soon

MyMac Podcast #489 – It’s a NEW YEAR (same old podcast)

mymac489
New year, new times, new weather (cold), but the same old GMen. Sorry about that. However there is good news! First off it’s a shorter show than usual and we have a special interview with the woman that does the Siri voice (kinda). Lot’s of G+ stuff, and everything else you might expect from a MyMac Podcast and we are deeply and humbly apologetic about it.

Guy’s App Pick: Not an App pick actually. The MOGA ACE POWER game controller for any 5th generation iPhone gives you that external controller you think you always wanted. PLUS it has a built-in 1800 mAh battery which will extend the life of your phone as well. $99

Gaz’s App Pick: OK as we went to London I prepared with a few Apps
I already owned it currently costs £2.49 Tube Map App by M X Data.
I also used CityMapper (which I think also do other cities around the world. this one is free from CityMapper Ltd.
I also had an App to pay for our Car Park at Stanmore Station, the App is of course free but the parking costs 🙂 The App is DASH from Adaptis Solutions.

We also hired some of what are called the Boris Bikes, where you pay for the use of a Bike and then pay for the period you use it. I think again other cities use these I’ve put a link to the TFL website, and also to the App from Barclays but I think they will not be sponsoring the bikes in the future so the App may change. So I’ve also sent a link to a Bike App which is independent both Apps are free.

People’s Pick: Allister Jenks likes Triage by Southgate Labs. $1.99 for those people who get a lot of email and want to scan through it quickly.

MyMac Podcast #488 – iOX FaceMessages

mymac488
So like chocolate and peanut butter, what could Apple shmoosh together from OS X and iOS to make either better? Oh and apparently Guy and Gaz say some funny stuff. Geez what did you expect? It’s almost Christmas.

Guy’s App Pick: Call Recorder by eCamm software $30. If you need to record anything related to Skype, this is the software to have. It just works. I could quibble about recording as a MOV file instead of pure audio, but they include tools for conversion. It’s what I use to record those huge amounts of calls to our Skype line.
Gaz’s App Pick: One Game to rule them all. Lego Lord of the Rings for the Mac.
£10.49. Curently on a holiday offer at half price. Some typical great comedic cut scenes.
Holiday Bonus Pick: iStat Menu £10.10 Single User £15.15 5 User License
People’s Pick: Allister Jenks likes Triage by Southgate Labs. $1.99 for those people who get a lot of email and want to scan through it quickly.

MyMac Podcast #487 – Random Stuff

mymac487
OK, so not a lot of things going on Apple-wise so the GMen talk about their FEELINGS. Well not really, but their kids did get a good going over with what they’re up to. Lots of great stuff from you guys over on Google Plus, so they talk about that too. Yep, Pretty random.

Guy’s App PickArt Studio for the iPad $4.99 by Lucky Chan studios. Great art app for iOS giving you lots of tools and options. Used it at last year’s MacWorld Expo.
Gaz’s App Pick: At last this year Apple are giving everyone access to their 12 Days of Gifts App, not just a lucky few countries around the world. So my pick is the 12 Days of Gifts iTunes App, which you need to get the gifts.

MyMac Podcast 486: Android winning market-share…losing the future

mymac486
There’s a lot said about Android devices gaining all the market-share, but very little about what kinds of devices these are, or what people use them for. As it turns out, mostly cheap, old, and not all that good for much. Gaz and Guy look deeper into it while still managing their usual shenannigans.

Guy’s App Pick: Card Shark Collection from Easy 8 Software $2.99. Fun multi game solitaire game with Klondike, FreeCell, Golf, Pyramid, and many more
Gaz’s App Pick: IOS Banking Apps, one for Barclays GB users is the Barclays App, I use it all the time and think it’s a really good App
People’s Pick: From Eric Stone. Here is a great people’s pick for everybody.  Sonic Dash is an excellent endless runner, like Temple Run.  You get to play as Sonic the hedgehog and run through a colorful world full of baddies, spikes, bombs, you will even loop upside down on occasion.  It is free in the App Store as a universal app for iPad and iPhone.  It has in-app purchases but you definitely don’t need to purchase any of them to play or enjoy the game.

MyMac Podcast 485: 200th show equals…well pretty much what it always is

mymac485
We reach our big 200th anniversary is which we do exactly what we do each week! YAY! We finish the interview with Larry O’Connor from OWC, answer some listener feedback, and generally have a good time. The bit at the end is X-Tra (snickt) long this week just because it was kinda goofy.

MyMac Podcast 484: With Larry O’Connor from OWC

mymac484
Larry O’Connor joins the GMen in a chat about Apple products, what OWC can do to make them better, and what we all think Apple could do to make them easier to upgrade. Not that we’re trying to sell you anything. The interview went on so long we split it up into two! Next week for show 485 (which will be our 200th show) we’ll have the second half of the interview. Stand by to stand by!

mymac483
All sorts of tech related problems that have nothing to do with Apple, but are funny so we talked about them. This show is about doing stuff without the normal hardware or software you may think of to do that stuff. Got it?

MyMac Podcast 482 – Where is that EUREKA moment?

mymac482
New TVs, automobile accidents, HUGE watches that control scoreboards, and iCloud solutions make up quite a bit of this week’s show. The GMen also talk about what’s Cooking (oh so clever seque) over at Apple. Of course a lot of your comments as well along with a lot of Guy and Gaz nonsense. So buckle up, sit back, and enjoy the ride!

MyMac Podcast 481: Gaz is in the Air!

mymac481
If you prefer short, concise, well prepared and documented shows, you are gonna HATE this week’s episode. We badger Reggie Ashworth into joining us and that made for a longer than usual podcast. Gaz has a new iPad Air and Guy is VERY jealous (but trying hard not to show it so why he’s writing that in these show notes in the third person perspective is a mystery). Plus LOTS of feedback from our listeners and just the usual insanity of the GMen.

MyMac Podcast 480: Mavericks the new OS…OK

mymac480
So much NEW stuff that Apple has released! So much recorded stuff the GMen can’t play for you! What do these things have in common? Not much really, but it seemed like hype sells and we wanted in on the action! Gaz likes certain things and Guy likes other certain things. Listen to find out who liked what and why.

Guy’s Pick: The new Maps program really works well on the Mac. I needed directions to go pick up my son from a school function at an unknown area and it worked exactly as advertised. One button push to the phone in a much easier to navigate package!

iPlayer Radio (& BBC Podcasts).
People’s Pick: From Erick Diaz Tweetbot 3.0, completely redesigned for iOS 7, with lots of nice features and a great new look. Only thing I don’t like is no iPad version yet. $2.99

Guy is Tanned, Rested, and Ready! – MyMac Podcast 4#64

mymac464
Guy is back from Florida a little early so was able to get the wherewithal to do a podcast. Gaz however is still exhausted from last week’s show with Will Green so wasn’t able to be here. Bart Busschotts from too many podcasts to list (OK we COULD list them but few people read these notes) agreed to fill in and the result was not only a very fun podcast, but the LONGEST after-show recordings we’ve ever done. We talked about how Mavvericks won’t mean the end for some well known and vital software, lots of off-topic tangents (surprise), and how to get out of a speeding ticket in Tel Aviv.

OK despite the best of intentions this is another long show. However we don’t think you’ll be bored because Gaz and Guy spend a lot of time discussing really cool stuff and, well make jokes at each other’s expense. So yeah same stuff, just longer. They talk a bit about WWDC (TF) and how well they did (amazingly so) on their predictions. Also, what some of their favorite apps and utilities are going to do now that a good deal of their functionality is being built into OS X.

Well WWDC is almost upon us and the internets is exploding with thoughts and ideas why someone OTHER than Apple’s executives should be creating new stuff. Naturally about the same number as Ivory Soap’s purity (99.9%) will be wrong. Guy and Gaz would like to add to that number by talking about what they think will happen and the BEST part is you’ll know immediately just how wrong they were since this comes out after the WWDC Keynote. YAY! Also, hope you got some extra time, this is a loooong show.
